  23. DIGITAL FIRES A NEW NT SALVO

  25. On September 25, Digital Equipment Corporation revealed its 
  26. strategy for further expanding its position in the volume desktop
  27. business by aggressively targeting the exploding market for 
  28. high-performance, low-cost Windows NT-based personal 
  29. workstations. To support its strategy, Digital introduced the 
  30. industry's fastest personal workstation family, based on both 
  31. Intel and Digital Alpha processors and featuring a common 
  32. PCI-based architecture. It features PC-like distribution and 
  33. pricing, interchangeable components and a focus on technical 
  34. applications.

  36. The Celebris XL and Alpha XL personal workstations deliver the 
  37. broadest range of Windows NT Workstation performance on a single 
  38. platform with seven powerful Intel-based and Alpha-based models. 
  39. Intel-based models include single 100, 120, and 133MHz and dual 
  40. 100 and 133 MHz Pentium processors. Alpha-based models include 
  41. the 233 MHz and 266 MHz versions of the Alpha 21064 processor. In
  42. addition, personal workstations will be upgradeable to Intel's 
  43. Pentium Pro processor and future Alpha processors when they 
  44. become available.

  46. Digital has tuned this family of workstations to run Windows NT, 
  47. and it is not known if they plan on porting VMS for these 
  48. stations.
